Nijmegen, June 2010 – LIAG architects and building advisors designs the new building for the Faculty of Education (FED) of the university of Arnhem and Nijmegen (HAN) in Nijmegen. The bureau received the assignment after a successful European tender.

On 25th of March 2010 is the opening of the University of Arnhem and Nijmegen (HAN) on her new location on the Laan van Scheut in Nijmegen. The new building of the faculty Economy and Management (FEM) offers accommodation to all economical studies of Nijmegen.

First Pile, IJburg College, Sports Accommodation and 23 Dwellings

In the presence of pupils, teachers and other staff of the IJberg College, Carolien Gehrels, the councillor for sport of the municipality of Amsterdam, drove the first pile for the new building of the IJburg College. She did this together with Max, the first pupil of the school and Fatima Elatik, chairperson of the city precinct Zeeburg. The IJburg College is the first school on IJburg for secondary education. The school, which has a department for preparatory vocational secondary education (VMBO), senior general secondary education (HAVO), and university preparatory education (VWO), was housed in a temporary building from the beginning of 2006. Driving the first pile brought the IJburg College one step closer to the long awaited new school, with the first sports hall on IJburg, on its roof.

School Building Prize 2008 secondary education: Niekée Roermond (NL)

The School Building Prize is a biannual prize for professional patrons. With this prize, the Dutch Ministry of Education aims to stimulate patrons to realise high-quality buildings that fit with the education concept. Economical, flexible and healthy buildings that are easy to utilize. The theme of the School Building Prize 2008 was ‘The Sustainable School Building: Quality in Context’. Sustainability points to the education concept, the design, the position of the school within its physical context and the actual translation into sustainable design and material usage. Two winners are chosen, one from primary education and one from secondary education. The jury found the all the secondary education schools to be of a high quality. In this category, the jury unanimously choose Niekée as the winner.

New Development Rijn IJssel Arnhem (NL) completed

Architectural firm LIAG has created a new transparent building with an open character for Rijn IJssel Arnhem that offers a safe and pleasant educational environment for the students and staff. It is a flexible building that fulfils current and future educational needs. The new building is officially completed this month.

A new beating heart for the Kennemer College Beverwijk

The Kennemer College, senior general secondary education (HAVO), and university preparatory education (VWO), location Büllerlaan in Beverwijk have been completely transformed inside by LIAG. An inner courtyard of 30 x 30 meters was covered over and converted into an auditorium and multimedia centre. The school has a compact design, with efficient access and has a cheerful, fresh and modern look.
